Abstract
This study evaluates the potential of utilizing Oil-Sludge (OS) as source of oil-rejuvenator in hot mix Asphalt Concrete (AC) containing RAP. Hot mix AC containing three levels of RAP (0%, 20%, & 40%) that were rejuvenated with OS, cement treated OS (CT-OS), and commercial rejuvenator (CR) were analyzed. The Marshall stability, moisture resistance, fracture resistance, and resistance to permanent deformation of the RAP-containing AC were studied. Results showed that AC containing OS- and CT-OS-rejuvenated rejuvenated RAP demonstrated improved moisture-damage, rutting, and fracture resistance. Heavy metal leaching, total VOC and air emissions from the OS are within acceptable limit.
