K.M. Aarif is an Associate Research Professor of Biological Sciences at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. He is a field ecologist with more than 20 years of research experience, specializing in shorebirds, wading birds, and wetland ecosystems across the Central Asian Flyway and South Asia. He holds dual PhDs in Zoology (Kannur University, India) and Ecology (Czech University of Life Sciences Prague). His research integrates population ecology, foraging behavior, and environmental toxicology, with a strong focus on pollutants such as heavy metals and microplastics, using non-invasive sampling approaches. He has published widely in international journals, leads multi-country collaborative projects, and is actively involved in mentoring students and early-career researchers, with an emphasis on conservation-relevant science and applied wetland management.
