Abstract
Candida auris is an emerging, multidrug-resistant yeast that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections. A literature search of the Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed databases identified natural products from plant, microbial, and animal sources. These agents have shown varying degrees of activity against C. auris, ranging from growth inhibition to biofilm prevention or disruption. The effects also include reductions in virulence-related traits and interference with stress-associated and resistance responses. Semisynthetic modification and drug delivery formulations have also been reported to improve compound solubility and stability and to support in vivo evaluation. Moreover, the current evidence for the majority of the natural products covered in this review is based solely on in vitro experiments; hence, extensive pharmacokinetic and toxicological evaluation, as well as valid in vivo studies, are required.
